Copy & Print

It has to work - every day!

At the HTX (Higher Technical Examination Program) at the Hamlet Vocational College in Hillerød, there are approximately 350 students distributed in three year groups. They are – just like the 35 employees – dependent on the copy and print system working every day. When the school's management decided to introduce a new copy and print system from Sagio during the summer of 2005, everyone was excited about whether the new system would work in the beginning of the new school year. The running-in of the Sagio system was unproblematic:

”We came back after the vacation and the system was already implemented. It worked right away, without problems. The only thing we had to do was renew our student card, type in a PUK code and make our own password, then we could print. Afterwards, the system has worked 100% and there have been no trouble or problems with anything,” Gurmukh Singh Sagoo, a student from Hamlet says.

Sagoo is in his last year of college at Hamlet in Hillerød. He finishes his exam with the classes Math, Physics, Danish and Multimedia Communication at the highest level. Besides being a student at the school, Sagoo is also an assistant of the IT staff and a student worker at the library of the school's study center.

The paper use have fallen markedly

Sagoo explains that when the students did not have to pay for copying and printing themselves, they did not think much about what they were printing. For instance, they could easily print out a number of drafts in the finest quality just to throw them out when they had been looked through.

After the running-in of the Sagio system which means that the students have to pay for copying and printing themselves, the paperuse has fallen markedly – because the print behavior has changed. ”Today, we edit on the screen, and we do not print out anything until we are sure that the document is exactly as we want it,” Sagoo says.

“The Sagio system helps us in the way that we think more about what we are going to print out. Earlier we just printed out good quality drafts only to throw them out after we had looked through them and made our adjustments. We kept on doing that until we had the final text. We do not work like that anymore!"

Sagio helps us avoid expensive print errors

In the course Multimedia Communication, the students, among other things, have to produce advertising campaigns. They choose what media they want to use in order to reach the given target group, however, usually they have to design and print out colored A3 posters. ”In our exam project for instance, we have made four to five posters that need to be printed out in A3, and it helps a lot knowing that you can check if you sent off the poster correctly, so you don't waste any money on an expensive color print,” Sagoo adds.

Everything in one card – practical and simple

At Hamlet you use the student card from Sagio for copying and printing, as a library card and later maybe even as a means of payment in the canteen.

”I always have my card with me – it is the most practical thing for me. If I need to loan a book at the library or print anything out, then I will just use the student card,” Sagoo explains.
“I don't mind paying for copying and printing. Since we pay ourselves we can print out private stuff too. And it's much faster to use the big machines here at the school than it does printing at home!

Almost 700,000 transactions a year – without flaws

With 385 daily users and about five transactions per user every day, almost 700,000 transactions are completed in a year solely at the HTX(Higher Technical Examination Program) at Hamlet Vocational College in Hillerød. After the summer vacation of 2007, the number was quadrupled since the Sagio system was introduced at three other Hamlet addresses.

Since the error tolerance of a payment system is minimal, the IT department will immediately receive an error message, if there is a problem. The assessment of the Sagio system is, however, unambiguously positive.

”We have used the system a lot, and it actually works very well! We haven't experienced any system errors,” Sagoo concludes.
