One simple system makes the student life easier

The IT University was established in 1999. In 2004 the ITU moved to the new, modern building on the island of Amager, Copenhagen. ITU offers a Master's degree – Msc in IT – within, among other things, Digital Design and Communication, Media Technology, Software Development and eBusiness.

One of the students at the ITU is Andreas Korsgaard. He is studying software development and is about to write his thesis. According to korsgaard it is nice to be a student at the ITU. In the new building, everything is adjusted to the life of a student – everything is thought of.

One of the installations that make life easier for the students is the card system from Sagio. Korsgaard sees many advantages in the system. He explains:

"The system is incredibly versatile. Our student cards provide us with access to the school in the evening and on weekends – and that is great especially when you are doing projects. The copy and print system works very well plus you can hook up your own laptop to the system. That is pretty clever and I have used it a lot in my time of study. Andreas Korsgaard

No hassle and no waiting time with Sagio

At Korsgaard's former school, there were not any copy and print system. Copies was just printed and it gave rise to many problems. He tells about the copying and printing problems that he experienced earlier:

”Where I studied earlier, printers were just standing here and there. You sent off your print job and then it became a bit difficult because where was the printer that you sent your print job to? Often, you just sent your print job off and hoped for the best while looking for the right printer. I spent a lot of time doing just that, earlier.” Andreas Korsgaard.
“If you get to the printer and someone is already printing out about 300 pages or if the printer is broken then you just find another printer. This way, you avoid wasting your time on standing in line or going back to send it off one more time.”

Besides spending time looking for prints, Korsgaard also spent a lot of time standing in line for the printers and he has used a lot of time trying to get a hold of his sheets of paper.

”The printer faults I experienced other places were typically related to the print job being sent to one particular printer. You had to go to that specific printer to wait. Lines often happened – which you didn't know when you sent off your print job. Other times, three to four people were waiting in line and the machine just printed out endless flows of paper.

Then you had to find out when your documents would come out plus you had to make sure that you got all your own sheets of paper and not accidentally someone else's.

Moreover, you didn't have the possibility to change the settings on the machine before your print would come out and that is why print faults were often made which meant that you had to start all over. The difficulty and messiness related to that are avoided with the Sagio system,” Korsgaard explains.
“It would be nice if you could also use the card in the canteen and in the vending machine. I'm always carrying notes and my debit card and neither of them can be used in the machines. It would be a whole lot easier if I could just use the card. Besides, I would be able to use the last amount of money on my card when I finish studying and don't need to print any more copies.”

A user-friendly system

The Sagio system, provides you with the opportunity to go to the exact printer you want to use. If a printer is already in use or is broken, lacks paper or toner, then you just go to another machine to print out your paper there.

The system from Sagio works in a very simple and relaxed way. You send off your print job and then there is a print server , which keeps track of the job. Then you go to the printer you want to use, put in your card, press the code and then the print job is printed. It is a very simple and steady system. It is really simple – or actually it is not simple, because it's pretty advanced, but anyway, it's easy for the users. It is a very user-friendly system. Andreas Korsgaard.
